Obituary of Dale V Anderson

Dale V. Anderson, 92 died Friday, August 24, 2018  in Meridian, ID.  In honor of his wishes, he will be cremated and there will no service.  Inurnment will be at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise, ID.  The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to St Alphonsus Hospice for the loving care given to our Dad (and us) during these past few months.    

Dale Vernon Anderson was born on September 9, 1925 in Baker City, the youngest child of Glenn and Katie (Barnett) Anderson.  He was raised and attended school In Weiser, ID.  Dale started his long experience in woods work with numerous summers of employment by the U.S. Forest Service while attending school.  Upon graduating from high school in 1943,  Dale enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served as a machinist mate third class and was assigned to the Sea Bees, 43 Battalion stationed on Guam during WWII.  Upon his honorable discharge in 1946, Dale attended the University of Idaho in Moscow where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and served as president his senior year.  He was a very proud lifelong Vandal.  Dale graduated in 1950 with a B.S. in Forest Management and went to work for the Idaho Fish and Game as a Big Game Biologist based out of Boise, ID.  He joined Boise Cascade’s predecessor company, Boise Payette Lumber Company, as a forester at New Meadows, ID in 1951 and moved to Cascade when Boise Payette purchased the sawmill in 1953.  On March 28, 1954 Dale married Audrey I. Harvey in Twin Falls, ID.  The first two of their three children were born in Cascade.  During his years in Cascade, Dale served 5 years as President of the Chamber of Commerce and two years as Mayor and became a lifelong member of the Masonic Ionic Lodge #82.  In 1960, Dale and Audrey moved to South Fork, CO, where he worked as the Operations Manager for BCC.  This position led to a promotion as production control manager at Emmett, ID in 1962 where he and Audrey made their home in Boise.  Shortly after their relocation, their youngest daughter was born.  Dale became Manager of Forestry and Logging for the Idaho Region in 1963, Assistant Regional Manager for the eastern Oregon-Idaho Region in 1967 and Region Manager for southern Idaho in April, 1970 and Region Timberlands Manager until his retirement in 1989.   

Active in many business and professional organizations, Dale was president of the Southern Idaho Forestry Association, president of the Idaho Forest Industry Council, president of Southern Idaho Timber Protective Association from 1964-1988, a member of the Idaho State Advisory Board of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, a member of the College of Forestry, Wildlife and Range Sciences Alumni Advisory Board and a member of the Society of American who named him Forester of the Year in 1977.  He was also a Director of the Pacific Logging Congress for many years. 

He traveled on behalf of Boise Cascade to Zaragoza, Spain in the 1960’s and to all of Boise's operations in the Northeast, Northwest, South and Canada.  He also traveled the western US, Alaska, Australia and New Zealand to attend logging conferences as a Director of the Pacific Logging Congress. 

Dale was an avid hunter and fisherman and in his high school yearbook his goal was to have a good hunting dog.  He enjoyed Salmon fishing off the west coast, Alaska and the Salmon River. He also enjoyed bowling on a doubles team with his wife Audrey, playing bridge and golf and loved to work in the dirt in his garden and yard. Dale was very content to settle down with a good book or the daily crossword puzzle.  Most of all, Dale was a people person who treated people with care, compassion and respect. People seldom walked away from a conversation with Dale feeling that they had not bonded through his sense of humor.  He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include son Phillip (Janell) of Kettle Falls, WA, daughter Laurie Anderson (Vincent Cosolito) of Meridian, ID & Flagstaff, AZ; 3 grand children; 2 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife Audrey, parents Glenn and Katie, brother Duane, and daughter Judith.  Memorials may be made to the Audrey Anderson Memorial Fund (8082) P.E.O.
