Obituary of Dorothy Ann Fackler Hugg

Daughter of LuDean Elliott and James Fackler. Born January 20, 1940 in Idaho Falls, and died in Boise on September 29, 2018 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was raised in Boise from age two and graduated from Boise High School. She married John Hugg in her senior year, and they had four wonderful children together. They were divorced in 1990. She received her LPN degree from St Luke's Hospital School of Nursing and Boise Junior College in 1959. She returned to school two more times to receive an Associate RN degree at Weber State College (Utah) in 1976, and a BS degree in nursing at Weber State University (formerly College) in 1995. She practiced nursing in Oklahoma, Washington, Utah and Idaho. She nursed in Medical/Surgical, ICU, Endoscopy, and Home Nursing for years. She loved crafts, tole painting, gardening, traveling, reading, making chocolates and her life with her children, of whom she was intensely proud. After retirement she loved to sit with and soothe babies.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather George Reed, her sisters Sharon Berger and Lana Meeks, and finally her ex-husband John, with whom she became friends again near the end of his life.

Dorothy is survived by a loving family: children John (Kimmie), Bart, Dave (Sandy) and Heidi; grandchildren John (Sarah), Michael (Jenna Rose) and Hannah; great-grandsons Emmet, Hans and Quin; brothers Dale (Irena) and Dave (Dena) Fackler.

Dorothy did not want a viewing and wished to be cremated. A memorial service for Dorothy will take place at Summers Funeral Home on Ustick road on Saturday October 20, 2018 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, Dorothy requested that donations can be made in her name to charities associated with Alzheimer’s treatment or research, cancer research, or to the Arthritis Foundation.

Dorothy’s family want to express their thanks to everyone from Willow Park Senior Living, MorningStar Memory Care at Englefield Green, and especially Advocate Guardianship of Idaho, for the wonderful care that they took of Dorothy during her final years.
