Obituary of Frederick Steven Carpenter

Frederick “Fred” Steven Carpenter, a resident of Caldwell, Idaho, joined his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven on October 8th, 2018 after living 70 full years of life. The son of Frederick and Margaret Carpenter; Fred grew up in San Diego, California with his two younger brothers, Michael and Thomas.  As a young man he was involved in student government and athletics, and after high school he went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree from San Diego State University.  He later joined the United States Air Force, where he attended flight school and became a pilot.  He served for over twenty years, flying the KC-135 during the Vietnam War and the KC-10 during the first Gulf War.  He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1991, after which he transitioned to a full time commercial airline pilot for American.  After twenty more years in the cockpit, Fred retired for a second time. 

 

Fred is survived by his two younger brothers, Michael (Carol) Carpenter and Thomas Carpenter, his four children, Carrie (Curtis) Feddern, Will (Keely) Carpenter, Nic (Sarah) Marsh, and Jacob Carpenter and his six grandchildren, Grace, Cade, Maggie, Elia, Liam and Wayne.  Fred was a committed father and grandfather, a proud veteran, and a humble child of Christ and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. 

 

A memorial service and celebration of Fred’s life will take place at Idaho State Veterans Cemetery on Friday, October 19th at 2:00 pm, to be followed by a brief reception at the Summers Funeral Home, 3629 E.
