Obituary of Donna Marie Matlock

Donna Marie Matlock, 68

Donna Marie Matlock of Boise passed away on October 16, 2018 of causes related to cancer.

Donna was born on November 7, 1949 in Clarkston, WA to Ronald Herndon and Bernice Hollenbeck Herndon. Donna and her older sister, Phyllis, spent their early years growing up on the Herndon family ranch on McCormack Ridge near Lapwai, ID, before later moving to Lewiston, ID. Donna graduated from Lewiston High School in 1968 and attended the University of Idaho where she graduated, with honors, with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business in 1972. She was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority where she met several of her life-long friends.

After graduating from the University of Idaho, she spent time working in Germany before returning to the U.S.  Shortly after returning to the U.S., she married David W. Matlock, also a Lewiston native and graduate of the University of Idaho. They lived in Lewiston, ID and Seattle, WA before settling in Boise. Together, they had two sons, Gordon W. Matlock of Seattle, WA and Jeff D. Matlock of Boise, ID. While raising her boys, Donna was actively involved with the Junior League of Boise, enjoyed spending time on the lake at the family cabin, and attending her son’s athletic events.

In recent years, Donna’s hobbies included wood working, arts and crafts, and spending time with her family; especially with her three grandchildren in Seattle and three grandchildren in Boise. She also adored her dogs and it wasn’t unusual for her to treat them to a drive-thru hamburger. Donna loved the Holidays. She had decorations for every season and her grandchildren anticipated the ever-changing décor, but mostly the family looked forward to her cooking.

Donna had a long career working for St. Luke’s Hospital in Boise, ID as a Senior Analyst. Nearing retirement, Donna cherished time and travel with her sister. Donna was extremely supportive of her family and looked forward to spending time with her grandchildren in retirement. Donna is survived by her sister Phyllis Hundrup (Dan) of Coeur d’Alene, her sons, Gordon W. Matlock (Jessica) of Seattle and Jeff D. Matlock (Sarah) of Boise, and her six grandchildren Dane, Nate, Audrey and Jack, Charlie, Joe.

The family will have a private memorial service followed by a public celebration of life for friends and family at Hillcrest Country Club, 4610 W. Hillcrest Dr., in Boise on Sunday, October 21^st at 3pm.
