Loni Hanka

Obituary of Loni Fine Hanka

Loni Fine Hanka passed away Nov. 2, 2020 at home after an extended illness.

Loni was the second of three daughters born to Richard and Sharron Fine.  She was born in 1959 in Davenport, Iowa where her father was attending Palmer Chiropractic College.  After his graduation the family made their home in Colville, WA where her father established his practice.  Loni and her sisters Cindy and Tammy all graduated from Colville High School.

The family enjoyed winters snow skiing at Red Mountain and 49 Degrees North and summers at Christina Lake.

Loni attended Western Washington University and graduated from Washington State University in 1981 where she received her bachelor’s degree in marketing.

After college, Loni moved to Santa Monica and met the love of her life, Jeff Hanka.  They married in 1982 and made their first home in Spokane, where Jeff received his degree from Eastern Washington University.  They  spent most of their years in Boise with relocations to Helena, MT, Tallahassee, FL and Olympia, WA.

Loni worked as a business liaison for the Idaho Division of Vocational Rehabilitation since 2016. Previously to that she worked in environmental education.

Loni and Jeff enjoyed bicycling, fine dining and travel.  They had especially memorable trips to New York City, France, Italy, and Mexico. Their home and garden were constantly evolving and improving as Loni envisioned new projects and renovations, and Jeff made the magic happen.  Her artistic eye saw treasures hiding in mundane items that she would paint, refurbish and repurpose.

Loni’s animal companions were an important part of her family.  Her bunny rabbits were dear to her and Sophie, Piper, Henry and most recently Jasper have all been very, very good dogs.

Loni is survived by her husband Jeff, her mother Sharron Fine, Spokane; sisters Cindy Fine, Spokane; and  Tammy (Mike) Bramlett, Bellingham; nieces Katie, Nora and Alyssa, nephew Josh.  She was preceded in death by her father.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Planned Parenthood.  No memorial service is planned.
