Lorraine Raad

Obituary of Lorraine C. Raad

Lorraine Couture Raad passed away peacefully with her family at her side on January 29, 2021 in Boise, Idaho at the age of 90. She was born April 9, 1930 in Winnipeg, Canada to Joseph Eugene Couture of Saint Jean Baptiste, Canada and Veronica Sarah Monica Bernhart of Winnipeg. Lorraine’s childhood years were spent in Winnipeg with her older sister Joan and younger brother Paul. Lorraine shared many happy stories of ice skating, getting into mischief with Kelvin High School friends, and summers at Gimli on Lake Winnipeg.

Lorraine graduated from the University of Manitoba College of Medicine in Pediatrics in 1955. She was one of four women in her graduating class. After an internship in Baltimore, Maryland and residency in Denver, Colorado she accepted a position at Kaiser hospital in Hayward, California. She soon transferred to Kaiser in San Francisco where she worked until retirement. She touched the lives of generations of San Franciscans working in a field she found both challenging and rewarding.

Lorraine met George Raad of Jerusalem, Palestine in San Francisco in 1958 through mutual friends and the couple were soon married at St. Francis of Assisi church in North Beach. They started their family in San Francisco and lived there happily until joining their son’s family in Boise, Idaho in 2014.

Lorraine loved the outdoors and to be on the move. She enjoyed tennis, golf, swimming and skiing as well as long walks along San Francisco Bay and the Boise River. Lorraine and George spent a great deal of time at Lake Tahoe and in  Manzanillo, Mexico where they made many life-long friends.

Lorraine enjoyed spending time with family. She adored her grandchildren and loved attending their activities. She always tried to see the sunny side of things and maintained an attitude of unfailing gratitude. She will be greatly missed by her family and many dear friends who valued her kindness, good humor and fun-loving personality.

Lorraine is survived by her daughter Maureen, son George, daughter-in-law Kelly, grandson Ryan and granddaughter Ellen.

Lorraine’s family would like to thank the staff at the Terraces of Boise for the compassion, friendship and care they showed to Lorraine during her stay. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
