Obituary of Donald (Donny) Paul Hammer

Donald (Donny) Paul Hammer passed away unexpectedly on April 24, 2021 at his home in Boise.  His sudden death left those who knew and loved him feeling a tremendous loss.

Don was born March 26, 1956 to Shirley Evans Hammer and Ralph Hammer Sr, in Boise, ID.   Don attended St. Mary’s, Lowell, and Lincoln Elementary Schools.  He attended North Junior High and graduated from Boise High in 1975.  Don married Mary Catherine Sisco in 1984 and although they later divorced, they remained best friends.

Don was one of 10 children, with 5 brothers and 4 sisters.  There was lots of activity in the household and over the years when reminiscing with family and telling stories of his childhood you would see a huge smile on Don’s face.  His many nieces and nephews recall how much “fun” Uncle Don was.  He would always be the first person to get on the floor to play games, throw a baseball, shoot hoops or participate in whatever activity they wanted to do.

One of Don’s favorite pastimes was spectator sports.  He was a huge fan of the Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Lakers.  In the winter you would never see him without his Miami Dolphins jacket or coat.  When it wasn’t football season, he would be sporting his Los Angeles Lakers jacket.  He was also a skilled bowler and participated in league play for a number of years, scoring several perfect games.

Don worked for over 34 years at St. Alphonsus Hospital; not many people have that kind of work history.  After his retirement he was enjoying life and doing whatever he wanted to do.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Shirley, and father, Ralph Sr, and two brothers, Ralph Jr. (Buck) and Mike.  We know they are all waiting with open arms to welcome him.

Don was a kind and gentle soul and will be greatly missed by those who were touched by his life. He is survived by Sally & Larry Rupp; Teresa & John Day;  Patty Blaine;  Joe & Michelle Hammer;  Dave Hammer;  Dan Hammer;  Mary Helen & Ken Brasher as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
