Kuya Reny lived a life of purpose and meaning. Behind his brilliant mind was a humble demeanor and dignity.
He was a devoted and loving husband to Ate Chit (Terry), the love of his life! He gave up his career earlier than planned to take care of her for many years. Equally an amazingly loving father to Emelou and May, he was hardworking, and was determined to give them a good education. And indeed he did, with Ate Chit!
A natural teacher, he taught me Algebra and Trigonometry in high school. I tested his patience, one of his many fine qualities. He was self-reflective and had the ability to listen and offer insight based on quiet and measured wisdom.
He was the brother I never had. Growing up, he was very close to my father, his Tio Amado, who was also his hunting buddy. They went to remote islands in the Philippines to hunt. Later on, they were joined by my husband, Danny, to upstate New York and Pennsylvania to hunt for the elusive antlered buck, with Ate Chit tagging along.
When my husband and I immigrated to the US, he and Ate Chit graciously opened their home and provided us support until we became self-reliant. He and Ate Chit enriched our lives beyond all measure and we will be forever grateful.
Rest In Peace, Kuya Reny. You will finally be together again with Ate Chit. Enjoy your kwentuhan with Tatay Ado and Nanay Lina.
You will always have a special place in our hearts.
Danny and Celia
