Obituary of Terrence John Scofield

Terrence John Scofield, aka “Terry”, “TJ”, was born in Twin Falls, Idaho to Verna Pearl Glasby and Eugene Scofield on August 7, 1942.  TJ passed into God’s loving arms on April 4, 2022 at Touchmark Memory Care, Meridian, Idaho.  TJ was a very kind, loving family man.

His “best ever, best ever days” were with his family in McCall, and of course, Moscow, Idaho at the University of Idaho.  He was very active in civic organizations throughout his life because TJ believed in giving back.

Around age 3 Eugene, TJ’s father, died leaving his mother, Verna Pearl, his sister, Patty and him. Verna Pearl was ill with cancer and passed when TJ was 14.  His maternal Uncle and wife, John and Mary Alice Glasby took him into their home to join his three cousins Betty Jo, Bud, and Connie.

Athletics were always on his daily agenda and he excelled at them. With college football offers in hand, his Uncle John reminded him he was going to The University of Idaho to get a degree, to learn.  Learn, he did!  He learned how fun it was to live in the SAE House, what it was to be a true gentleman forming lifelong friendships and a forever dedication to The University of Idaho. He somehow paid enough attention to get a fine education, with a 5-year degree in Architecture.

TJ worked for a couple of architectural firms prior to becoming the head of Albertson’s Architectural Department.  It was here he found his passion for commercial building.  Choosing to be a very present father, he opened his own firm, TJ Scofield and Associates, working for 30+ years.  There are commercial buildings with his signature touch around Boise, the state of Idaho, and the West.

He was a dedicated, gentle, family man and his children and grandchildren have had not only his loving direction and quick wit (as TJ loved to catch all off guard with his sense of humor), but have been blessed by his fun, loving, kind, yet disciplined life.  He also blessed the family with the luxury of a beautiful spot in McCall on Payette Lake.  Many great years, summers, and holidays have been filled with priceless memories made there.

The University of Idaho was his “home”!  He loved his time there and volunteered countless hours elevating the Vandal Nation. Friendship was a deep commitment for TJ.  If you were fortunate to be his friend, he never forgot you or your friendship with him.  In life or business, he was solid, trustworthy, loyal, and fair.  He truly wanted to help everyone succeed.

TJ is survived by his loving wife: Kathy; son: Chris Scofield (Jessi); daughters: Danielle Niemi (Allan) and Tiffany Corbett; grandchildren: Ursula Scofield and Max and Olivia Niemi; niece: Teresa Kennedy (Mike) and children; cousins: Betty Jo Gormley (Vic), Connie Glasby (Don), Ralph Scofield (Mary Ann), Irene Willey (Stan), Jacquie May Miller, Sue McReynolds (David), and countless friends.
