Obituary of Vernon L Proff

Vernon Lewis Proff passed on to heavenly glory on 4/19/2022 in Boise, ID. He lived a remarkable life of service & devotion to community, country, faith, & family. 

Born in Tacoma, WA & raised in Bridgeport and Fife, WA, he graduated from Fife HS in 1948. Vern attended WSC (WSU) & graduated in 1952 w/ a BS in Agronomy. There he met Dolores (Dee) Olson. They married in October 1952 & a month later reported to Ft Lewis. Vern was a cryptographer & paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. After 2 yrs, Vern & Dee traveled back to the Pacific NW. Vern took a job w/ the Washington Dept of Agriculture Seed Branch. In 1956, they moved to Spokane, WA. After 28 yrs with the Dept. of Ag, he went to work for Idaho Crop Improvement for 7 years in Post Falls, ID. Vern & Dee both retired in 1989.

 Vern was preceded in death by his parents Edward & Gladys Proff; sisters, Mary Smith and Doris Spencer; and brothers, Arnold and John Proff. He is survived by his wife of 69+ years, Dee; one brother Dwayne Proff of Gig Harbor, WA; 3 sons and daughter in laws - David & Kathy Proff of Boise Idaho, Allen & Paige Proff of Puyallup WA, & Forrest & Shannon Proff of Littleton, CO; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and 9 nieces & nephews. Vern is buried in the Bridgeport, WA cemetery.

A celebration of life will be held at 2PM June 11th at the Christ Fellowship Baptist Church - 13620 E Broadway, Spokane Valley, WA.
