Obituary of Margaret Ann (Dempsey) Spangler

Margaret Ann (Maggie) Spangler (Dempsey), 86 of Boise, Idaho passed peacefully into eternal rest on July 25, 2022.  Maggie was born on November 30, 1935, in Logansport, Indiana.

Maggie married Wilbur G (Bill) Spangler on June 16, 1951, and they remained devoted in marriage until his passing on August 28, 2016.  They met as talented Ballroom dancers in Madison, Wisconsin and were known to be able to clear the floor with their grace and impeccable form at parties and socials for many years.

Together they lived in several regions of the US as they raised their three boys before finally settling in the Treasure Valley of Idaho in 1971.  Maggie worked several part-time jobs over the years and was active in the ladies’ societies of her local Catholic parish, however her pride and joy was in keeping a meticulous and spotless home and pampering her many toy poodles and an occasional yorkie.  Bill and Maggie also shared a love of horses and horse racing and spent their early retirement making annual trips to Santa Anita to watch with interest as the horses ran.  They always made these trips on house money. Maggie loved spending time with her grandchildren and was very proud of all their accomplishments.

Maggie is survived by her sister Karen (Les) Small of Columbus, WI, her three sons Stephen of Pocatello, Ronald of Las Vegas, and Daniel (Shawna) Spangler of Boise, and her three grandchildren Sara (Tyler) of Albany, OR Angela of Denver, CO and Andrew Spangler of Snowmass, CO.

She is preceded in death by her parents Barton Henry Dempsey and Lucille Geier (Sturgeon), her stepfather Roland Geier, and her husband Bill Spangler.

It was Maggie’s wish to not have a service but for her remains to simply be placed in a shared space with Bill in the Idaho Veterans Cemetery where he awaits her.
