Obituary of Maureen H. Kirby

Maureen (Chris) H. Kirby, passed away on July 30, 2022, from complications from a fall.

Maureen born July 26, 1933, to Maurice H. Christie and Eleanor M. Christie in Boise, Idaho. Maureen graduated from Boise High School in1954, then went on to Boise State Junior College graduating in 1954.

Maureen married Larry Hepner in 1954, moved to California and had four children: Christie Ann, Jerry, Bart and Brett. Maureen and Larry divorced in 1959.

She moved back to Boise and started working at The Book Bindery, and soon introduced to Wayne Kirby by her future sister-in-law Betty Kirby.

She and Wayne married June 1961, moved to Garden Valley, ID and had three children: Suzzanne, Carole, and Russell.

Maureen and Wayne resided in Garden Valley until moving to Fruitland, ID in 2000 until 2018. Maureen then moved back to Boise, ID.

Maureen had natural artist talent, exposed when she carved a perfect Indian Head in her mother’s desktop at the age of 5.

Her art talent expanded into portraits (oil paintings), tooling leather, commissioned work of family’s favorite pets, commercial work signage from trucks, local businesses, advertising on benches for the Terrace Lakes Golf Course.

Painted the Garden Valley Schools mascot on the outside of the grade school wall.

Maureen loved gardening, her hard work paid off in fall, to continue the hard work of canning all her vegetables grown.

She loved to sing and sang in a choir call Majors and Minors for many years; was a hand model in the early 1960’s; taught Art at the Garden Valley Schools, touching many students with her kindness.

Maureen sewed her children’s cloths, formals, dresses, drill team and cheerleading outfits.

She loved to cook and bake, making beautiful, detailed birthday cakes; exposing her children to many Arts Mediums, sewing, cooking, knitting, crocheting and her love of movies.

Her children had fond memories of her back scratches with her long fingernails. Watching Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom and Sunday night Disney movie after Sunday Dinner. Family BBQ’s on the back patio in Garden Valley and Fruitland. Family Holiday dinners. Maureen’s talents have been passed down through to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Maureen is survived by: Christie Ann Hepner, Suzzanne (John) Richardson, Carole (Bob) Hackwell and Russell Kirby. Grandchildren: Nicholas Hepner, Cole (Nonna) Bailey, Kirby Leighton, Kylie Leighton, Korey Kirby, Erik Ross, Sarah Ross, Taylor Hackwell, Stacey Kirby, Cory Kirby, Curtis Kirby and Twelve great grandchildren.

She is proceeded in death by: (Husband) Wayne Kirby, (Parents) Maurice and Eleanor Christie, Brothers: John (Jack) and Deloris Jesberger, Karl (Butch) Christie, Sons: Jerry Hepner, Brett Hepner and Bart Hepner.

Maureen (Chris) touched many by her kindness and will be greatly missed.
