Obituary of Gayle L. Morley

Gayle L Morley was born February 29, 1936 in Moroni, UT to Urwin Andrew and Dora Fay Larsen Morley, as the third child of six.  Gayle passed away May 22, 2023 in Meridian at the age of 87.  A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at the LDS Chapel, 2515 W. Ustick Rd. Meridian ID 83646.

Gayle was a quiet and sincere individual with many accomplishments to his credit. He graduated from Snow College, BYU, UCLA, Iowa State University and the University of Idaho.  He took a post-doctoral fellowship at Texas A&M University after receiving his PhD at Iowa State University in Ames, IA where he met his wife, Dora Lee. Gayle taught at Mankato State University from 1968 until 1979 when he accepted a position at the College of Idaho, Caldwell ID. To his credit, he taught physics, math, astronomy and engineering to many appreciative students of whom his patient demeanor was a positive influence. When he heard from former students and learned of their successes, Gayle was especially happy. For him, that was the joy in teaching.

Gayle’s talents were not limited to teaching for 35 years.  He was an outstanding woodworker and created many fine heirlooms for his posterity. His love of genealogy, history, mathematics, good music and watching space documentaries reflect his multifaceted interests.  However, Gayle’s greatest joy by far was his family, whom he loved fully and without reservation. He was a devoted and loving husband and father.

Gayle will be remembered for his kind and gentle ways, his ready smile and his gracious countenance. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dora, and his children Tamera Edwards (Michael), Teresa Rogers (Clint); and Alan Morley (Renee); his grandchildren: Taylor and Abigail Edwards; Seth, Madisen, Jordynn and Caleigh Rogers; Kaj, Cohen and Kira Morley; and great-grandchildren Kieran, Korra and Nora; also surviving are his siblings Clair (Marcella), Bob (Annette), Janice (Ron) and Marlene, and sister-in-law Ardis Kiner.  He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister Flora Morley.
