Obituary of Mary Shizuko Pitkin

In Loving Memory of Mary Shizuko Pitkin

March 9, 1950 – July 26, 2023

Our hearts are heavy as we bid farewell to a truly remarkable woman, Mary Shizuko Pitkin.

She was the daughter of “Joan” Tsunae Ieda and Richard Yoshihiro Tomokiyo. Born in Kobe Japan, Mary was raised in Wailuku, Maui along with her sisters Jane and Ann. Mary went to Pacific University where she met the love of her life, Dennis Pitkin. Dennis and Mary resided in Boise, Idaho where they raised their three children, Yuki, Miki, and Yoshi. Mary devoted her career to teaching and her life to raising her family. She is survived by her husband, Dennis Pitkin, daughters Yuki Pitkin and Miki Virtue, daughter-in-law Roxanne Ellis-Pitkin and 6 precious grandchildren.

Mary was a most beloved wife, cherished mama, and devoted grama. Her journey was one of ‘ohana (family), love and compassion, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. As a loving wife, Mary shared a deep bond with her soulmate, Dennis, guided by the principles of impermanence and appreciation for each moment spent together. Their love is a testament to strength and beauty, as they supported each other through life’s joys and challenges. But it was as a grama that Mary’s spirit truly shined. She adored her grandchildren, filling their lives with the warmth of aloha and values of respect, and family.

Mary spent countless hours, volunteering and participating in classes at the West Boise YMCA. We wish to thank the staff, members and friends who were such a huge part of Mary’s life.

Dear mama, you were the heartbeat of our ‘ohana and your departure leaves a void that can never be filled. As we come together as a family, just as you taught us, we find strength and love in one another. May your soul rest in eternal peace, knowing that you are deeply cherished and loved, and that your legacy of aloha will forever bless our lives. Though you may no longer be with us in body, your spirit will forever live in our hearts, reminding us to cherish our families and each moment that we have together.

With reverence, I remain - Namo Amida Butsu
