Darlene Code

Obituary of Darlene Louise Code

Darlene Andersen Code (90) of Boise, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, died peacefully at the Butterfly House, Meridian, on August 13, 2023. Darlene was born Oct. 5, 1932 at St. Lukes Hospital. She lived in Boise her entire life; attending Washington Elementary, North Jr. High, and Boise High School, graduating in 1950. Shortly thereafter, she received her x-ray technology certificate through St. Alphonsus hospital. She had four daughters with her first husband Richard Ulin. They were later divorced.

Darlene married Fordyce William Code, March 20, 1961. Together they adopted a son (Billy) who was doted on by all his sisters. Mom was a wonderful mother, caregiver, community volunteer, and friend. She was an initial member of the YaYaYoYo’s (a group of childhood friends) that started in the first grade and continued meeting off and on throughout the years. Still today, the YaYa’s gather for monthly lunches.

Mom loved Boise. She was active in several organizations, including the Idaho Dental Auxiliary, the Morrison Center Auxiliary, and the Junior League where she volunteered to improve the community by working on such projects as the Ronald McDonald House, the Discovery Center, the Literacy Lab, and the Morrison Center. She had a passion for reading, cooking, gardening, and decorating. She loved to entertain and share her meals with all that would come.

Recently, Mom’s health started to decline and she could no longer care for herself. Being such a strong, independent woman, she made the decision not to be dependent on anyone else. Within a week, she was gone. One of her last pieces of advise “Stand up for who you are and what you believe in; and never allow someone to change your mind just because they think so.” “Believe in Yourself and Never stop learning.”

Darlene is proceeded in death by her husband Bill, and her daughter, Carolyn. She is survived by her children: Cindy (Bob), Mary (Greg), Jennifer (Dave), and Bill; grandchildren: Jason, Jenna, Chris, Sam, Tricia, Heather, Megan, and Charity; 19 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

At mom’s request, there will be no service. Memorials may be made to the Idaho Humane Society.
