Gerald DeWayne Peterson passed away on September 13, 2023 at his home in Boise, Idaho after a long battle with cancer. Services will be held at Rost Funeral Chapel in Mountain Home on September 28th at 10 AM. Interment will follow at the Idaho State Veteran’s Cemetary at 2 PM.

Gerald was born on November 27, 1943 at Turtle Lake, North Dakota, the oldest child of Clarence and Bernice (Severts) Peterson. He grew up in the Turtle Lake area and graduated from Turtle Lake High School in 1963. After four years in the Air Force as an engine mechanic, he attended flight school to become a pilot.

He married June D. Thompson on September 20, 1969. They spent a year on the family farm before he pursued his dream of a flying career. During the next 40 years, he was initially a crop duster and then a Wildlife Services pilot for the government. He and the family lived in seven states over the years, making many friends along the way. Upon retirement in 2005, he settled in Glenns Ferry, Idaho and opened a welding shop and hobby farm. He moved to Boise, Idaho in 2019.

He is survived by his wife, June D. Peterson, his son, Jordan and daughter-in-law, Shannon, his daughter SarahBeth Howell and her fiance, Billy Lanning, as well as three grandsons, Holden and Kye Howell and Oliver Peterson. He has two surviving sisters, Avis (Steven) Seeger of Turtle Lake, North Dakota and Cynthia (Dennis) Orvedahl of Evansville, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents and oldest sister, Gloria.
