Marcia G. Veldhuis' Memorial Service

Marcia Gellert Veldhuis was born on November 25, 1946 in Seattle, Washington to Nathan and Wilna Gellert. Marcia died on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at age 76, in a care home in Meridian, Idaho. She died after having several strokes over the past year. The Gellerts lived in Seattle and Spokane before moving to Boise in 1959. Marcia attended Boise Schools before attending college. She graduated from Rockford College in Illinois, where she met her husband, Johannes Veldhuis, M.D. a local physician. Marcia was a woman of strong Christian faith who served her husband, her children and the churches they attended. Marcia often led the music, directed choirs and even wrote Cantatas for Easter and Christmas.. A gifted pianist, Marcia’s lively hymn playing blessed many congregations as the family moved to Hershey, PA, Charlottesville, VA and Rochester, MN following Johannes medical career. Besides her musical talents Marcia taught English and English literature after raising her family of five children. She taught students some of the great works of literature as well as honing their writing skills. Speaking of writing skills, Marcia wrote her fist book, “The Totaled Woman” recounting chapter after chapter of Veldhuis good and near disastrous times. She followed this with a sequel, “Totally Unhinged!,” highglighting more fun stories of the family, never leaving out her own embarrassing moments. Marcia had the great ability to laugh at herself. Many friends and neighbors will miss seeing Marcia at their door bearing gifts of large tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, beans and squash from her prolific garden. Marcia would can and freeze her produce plus make a years’ worth of applesauce from local apples. Dinner at her table was always treat. Marcia is survived by her husband of 53 years, Johannes Veldhuis, M.D. of Boise, and her five children: Nathan Veldhuis (Meredith) of Fredericksburg, VA, Ingrid Veldhuis of Salt Lake City, UT, Olivia Gordon of Moscow, ID, Stefan Veldhuis of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, and Alisson Veldhuis of Moscow, ID. and ten grandchildren. 

A Memorial Service for Marcia Veldhuis will be held at 4pm October, 14th Summers Funeral Home 3629 E Ustick Road Meridian, Idaho 83646
