Obituary of Sherry Ann Elliott

Sherry Ann Elliott, 74, of Meridian, ID, passed away peacefully at St Lukes Merdian Medical Center on November 16, 2023.

Sherry was born in Twin Falls, Idaho June 28, 1949 to John and Mary Giltner of Kansas and Oklahoma, respectively. The family moved to Hawthorne, Nevada in 1950, where Sherry attended school grades 1-6. They moved to Filer, Idaho in 1961 where Sherry attended grades 7-11.  They moved to Jerome, Idaho in 1966 and Sherry graduated from Jerome High School in 1967.  She enjoyed her classmates in her school days and spoke of them fondly. She was very close to her family and made many happy memories with her brother and sister during her childhood.

After high school Sherry worked at Wills Motor in Twin Falls and then in 1968 she attended airline academy in Kansas City, Missouri, training to become a ticket agent.

Her lifelong love, Robert Elliott proposed on New Year’s Eve 1968 and they were married on March 9, 1969. They made their first home in Boise where Sherry worked for Buttrey Food & Drug from 1969-1971. Bob and Sherry moved to Meridian, Idaho in 1971. Sherry gave birth to daughter Dena in September 1971 and daughter Becki in October 1973. Sherry loved dressing her daughters in matching outfits, many of which she sewed by hand.

Sherry and Bob joined Red Rock Christian Church in January of 1971; she served as a deaconess and on the membership and worship committees, as well as participating in various church groups. After moving to Nampa, Idaho in 2007 she joined the Nampa First Christian Church.

She worked in state government for many years, including the Department of Employment, Revenue and Taxation, and the Transportation Department. She retired from Transportation in 1999.

Sherry had many friends from work and church, and she enjoyed spending time with them. She was especially close to her brother Rod, her friend Sharon, and to six special church friends who she played pinochle with. She always kept a beautiful home, and loved decorating for all the seasons and holidays. She had many hobbies throughout her life including ceramics, cross stitch, sewing and woodworking. Her creations were beloved and sought after. She enjoyed taking drives and often returned to the Magic Valley where she had many precious memories.

She and her daughters always maintained a close relationship and cherished time together, particularly each year during the holidays for an annual cookie bake. Sherry and Bob enjoyed many activities together for 54 wonderful years. She will always be remembered for her laugh and her generous nature. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.

She was preceded in death by parents John and Mary Giltner and sister Linda Giltner. She is survived by husband Robert Elliott, daughters Dena Elliott (JB Allen) and Becki (Steve) Grothaus, and brother Rod (Jeanne) Giltner.
