Thomas Thien, Sr.

Obituary of Thomas Richard Thien, Sr.

Thomas Richard Thien Sr. (Tom) of Boise passed away peacefully January 10, 2024 of complications related to Parkinson's disease. He was born June 9, 1942 in St Louis, Missouri where he spent his formative years. Tom started working on the docks in St. Louis when he was 17 years old right out of High School.

Tom married young and had two children, Thomas Jr. (Tom Jr) and Suzanne, with his first wife Gerry Lee (Butch). He was smitten with different aspects of the transportation industry, was a hard worker and quickly promoted into management. He moved his young family around the country to places like Denver, Salt Lake City and Boise. He even spent time in Anchorage, AK where he worked for Mukluk Freight lines hauling pipe for the Alaska pipeline.

Tom moved to Boise in 1987 and met his current wife, Heather Sanders Weyen. They were married in 1989. Together they enjoyed traveling, particularly on their motorcycle. They took many day and weekend trips with friends and family. They once spent six weeks traveling across the country on their Harley Davidson motorcycle starting in Boise hitting Chicago, Tennessee, Missouri and Arkansas visiting friends along the way. Together they loved spending time with friends and family, cooking, entertaining and discovering new wines.

Tom loved all things sports; especially football and baseball. He and his son, Tom Jr, loved to watch games together and talk about sports highlights. In the late 1980's, he played on three softball teams simultaneously. He was an avid Broncos football fan and a season ticket holder for both the Denver Broncos and Boise State Broncos. He loved tailgating and everything associated with the big game.

Tom remained in the transportation business, settling into the Moving and Storage segment of the industry for a majority of his career. He worked for several different companies over the years including North American Van Lines and Peasley Transfer before retiring in 2010. Later in life he enjoyed volunteering with the Green Belt Police Patrol where he met many great friends.

Tom had a great sense of humor and was often the life of the party. He loved BBQing, IPA's, Italian food and Italy, the Oregon coast, his dogs, but most of all his family and friends. He will be missed by all of us.

Tom is survived by his wife Heather Thien of Boise; son Thomas Thien Jr. (Tricia) of Missoula, MT and grandchildren Sydney, Zachary, Madison and Carson; stepdaughter Molly Weyen Mcconkey (Fred) of Hunts Point, WA and granddaughters Angie Mcconkey Kam (Andrew) and Eleanor; stepdaughter Paula Weyen Gellner (Jeff) of Park City, UT and grandsons Riley and Nicolas.
