Obituary of Darrel Ivan Matthews

In loving memory of Darrel Ivan Matthews an 82-year-old man who gracefully cast his last line into eternal waters on January 19^th, 2024 in Boise, ID.

Darrel was born to Ivan and Gladys on July 5^th, 1941 in Boise, ID. Darrel graduated from Meridian High School, then went to Boise Junior College, and ultimately graduated from the University of Idaho with a degree in Forestry. While on summer break from College, Darrel worked for the Forest Service at several locations in Idaho. This is when his love for the Idaho mountains was truly engrained in him. After college graduation, Darrel was employed by the Bureau of Land Management for a brief period until he moved his family to Boise, ID, and co-founded a privately owned Real Estate Appraisal business. After several years working on his business, he decided to move his employment to Mountain States Appraisal & Consulting where he remained until retirement.

Darrel was an incredible father and avid outdoorsman. His outdoor interests included Camping, Backpacking, Hunting, and Gardening. But his favorite outdoor activity was fly fishing. His love of the Idaho mountains ran deep, and we spent almost every weekend in the summertime backpacking and exploring Idaho’s Mountains. Chasing trout and living in the beautiful scenery of Idaho’s high mountain lakes were an incredible driving force for Darrel.

Darrel always stayed true to his values which could sometimes create an appearance of being a rather “tough” customer, but he was a teddy bear at heart. He created “Pet” nicknames for those he was close to, family or friends, which made him an even more endearing person. He also had a witty sense of humor that would bring laughter to those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Darrel, we will miss you immensely. You were our “go-to” when we had a hard time finding the answers we were seeking to life’s challenges. You were always someone we could count on for expert advice in this crazy world.

Darrel’s family will host a funeral service on Friday, February 9^th, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Summers Funeral Home, 3629 E Ustick Rd., Meridian, ID 83646
