Obituary of Ronald Blendu
Ronald D. Blendu of Weiser/Boise, ID passed away on September 17, 2012 in Boise, Idaho due to
complications from a stroke.
Ron was born on November 19, 1943 in Gary, Indiana to George and Lorraine Blendu. Ron
graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 1966. Ron married the love of his life,
Betty, in 1968. Ron proudly served his country in Vietnam as a river boat captain. After he
completed his military service, Ron held various positions in his career ranging from plant
manager for Procter and Gamble to building and running power plants. Ron also served
on the Board of Directors and was Board Chair of the Alumni Association for the U.S. Coast
Guard Academy.
Ron, or "Hud" as his closest friends knew him, was known as a bigger than life character.
He never backed down when it came to doing what's right and he was known to pop
the biggest of egos with his quick wit. With Ron, there was never a dull moment. His
escapades, one-liners, and stories are enumerable. He loved Idaho, especially the outdoor
lifestyle, hunting and fishing. He was also actively involved in the raising of his four
grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. Ron was a mentor and best friend to many. He
created a legacy and made an impact wherever he was involved. We will miss you Hud.
Ron is survived by his wife of 44 years Betty (Boise), daughters Rondell (Blythe, CA), Jenni
(and Matt)Herberg (Boise), Cindy Blendu (Bethesda, MD), Brothers: Robert, Randy, and
Rusty Blendu, Sister Barbara Webster, granddaughters Heather and Tarah Betts, grandsons
Devin and Dylan Herberg, and his brethren from the Coast Guard Class of '66.
