Obituary of Joyce Utley

Joyce Kvool Utley Joyce Kvool Utley, age 87, passed away peacefully in a Boise care facility on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011 after a short illness. Joyce was born Joyce Annabelle Kvool on Oct. 14, 1924 in Humbird, Wisc. To Herman Gustav Kvool and Alice Evelyn (Hassel). She lived in Humbird along with her sister Doris Evelyn (King) and her brother, James Edward until 1932, when she moved to Seattle, Wash. In Seattle, she met and married Edward Mont Utley on Sept. 4, 1943. Edward was in the United States Navy. While Edward was in the Pacific fighting the war, Joyce lived with her sister Doris, in Florida, and her mother-in-law in Edward's hometown, Newton, Ill. After the war, she lived in Buffalo, New York, Hawaii, New Jersey, Newport, Rhode Island, and Annapolis, Maryland, all while Edward was serving in the Navy. While Edward was away much of the time serving at sea, Joyce held the family together and kept it running. When Edward retired from the Navy, her family moved to Boise in 1959. In 1965 Joyce attended Boise Junior College and received her License Practical Nursing (LPN) license and worked in various Treasure Valley locations. Since 1959 her family lived in several locations in and around Boise including Star and Eagle. Survivors include her brother, James of Cottonwood, Ariz., her daughter Susan Joyce Privette, of Boise, her sons Steven Mark Utley of Salem, Ore. and James Edward Utley of Boise. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by her sister Oral in 1922, her father in 1963, and mother in 1974 and her son, Edward Mont in 1964, her sister Doris in 1991 and her husband Edward in 2002. Services will be held Dec. 16, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home, 3629 E. Ustick Rd., Meridian. Burial will be at the Dry Creek Cemetery, Boise following the service.
