Obituary of Rolly Fuller

Rolly Wayne Fuller In memory of a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother: a man who bestowed a big presence in a quiet and gentle way. Born to Clarence and Florence (Howden) Fuller in Independence Missouri, the third oldest of six children. The family moved to Mount Brynion, Kelso WA in 1933. Rolly learned his strong work ethic from his parents. He and his brothers built their home and helped family in farming and logging while fitting in fun and adventures in the outdoors. As remembered by his siblings, Rolly always had his head under the hood of a car. In his later years he took on the role of family historian and story teller from his father. Rolly worked for the Weyerhaeuser Timber Company in Longview Washington until he joined the navy in 1944. He served on the USS Missoula and was honorably discharged in 1946. After the war Rolly joined his brother Hale in San Francisco where they started a moving business. Rolly met Paulette Danan and were married on June 24, 1950. They started their family there and in 1952 moved to Boise ID to join his parents. Rolly started out logging with his father and his brother Hale and spent time working on Lucky Peak Dam. Later he began his career as a diesel mechanic, first for Bunting Tractor in 1954, then for Western States Co where he retired in 1988. For a brief a time, 1964 - 1966, he co-owned and operated DAR Tractor Service. Family was the most important part of Rolly's life. His grew up in a family that lived and learned with aunts, uncles and cousins who had an intricate part in the sharing of stories and the building of character. He continued these lessons as he built his own family. His memories, family history and storytelling always captivated his audience. He also had a special talent for teaching treasured life skills to his children. He worked hard to provide a comfortable life for his family and created many family memories through vacations, camping trips, boating fun on Lucky Peak and sharing the beauty of backcountry Idaho on random Sunday road trips. Other treasured memories include boisterous family Thanksgiving celebrations and weekend card games with family and friends. Retirement found him and Paulette discovering the beauty of America by RVing across the western states and Alaska, snowmobiling, boating, deep sea fishing and wintering in Arizona. Rolly's gift was his unwavering loyalty and commitment to family and friends. He will be remembered by those who were fortunate to have known him. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Hale, Joe and Dave. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Paulette, his four children Rolly (Susan) Fuller of Benton City, WA; Linda (Weeb) Martin and David (Susan) Fuller of Boise, ID; and Vicky (Patrick) Ferrell of Kennewick WA, 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren along with his sister Patricia Truitt , brother Donald Fuller and numerous nieces and nephews. The family expresses their deep appreciation to Sherri and Franco of Right at Home, and Tina and others at Heart n Home for their motivation and compassion allowing Rolly dignity at the end of his life. With a twinkle in his eye, a helping hand and a "By Golly" his smile and a chuckle will always be seen and heard in our hearts as his memory lives on through family and friends. Service arrangements are through Summers Funeral Homes, Ustick Chapel with a viewing Sunday, Nov 20, 4-7PM and services on Monday, Nov 21 at 2PM. A celebratory gathering will be at the home of Weeb and Linda Martin following the end of the service at Dry Creek Cemetery.
