Obituary of George Wolter

George P. Wolter Jr., 82, passed away at home from pulmonary fibrosis in the early afternoon on September 29, 2011 in the loving embrace of his wife of 50 years, Margarite Mary Wolter. Pat, as he was known, was born in Wichita, Kansas, February 10, 1929 to George Patrick and Marie D. Wolter. He was the proud brother to Mary Ann who resides in Wichita, Kansas. Pat's pride was graduating from Wentworth Military Academy with college hours. Although he deeply respected military life, he decided not to pursue this as a career. College life was not for Pat either and he instead chose to work on the family ranch in the Flint Hills of SE Kansas. He loved ranch life, but was forced to give it up after eight years. He entered the oil business as a draftsman, eventually becoming a petroleum landman. In 1963 he formed his own business and was active in the oil patch until his death. Pat was a self made man who gave graciously to his family and to others in need. He was a devoted husband, proud father of eight children and grandfather of 12. He valued his many friendships through the years and once you were a friend, you were a friend for life. Those who knew him best knew him for his strength of character, his wit, his devotion to family, and his Catholic faith. He lived his life with honor and integrity. Pat provided his family with a firm foundation and was always there to give guidance. He loved the outdoors and spent many hours with family and friends, fishing, hunting and backpacking. Pat was also talented with his hands, especially, in music and etchings. He lived life fully and will be deeply missed by all. He is survived by his wife Margarite; eight children Kathleen, Carolyn (Stephen Prater), Mary (Rick Salocker), George (Samantha), John (Maja), Thomas (Maria), David (Julie) and Daniel (Jennifer); grandchildren Caitlin, Ryan, Megan Prater; Maric Salocker; George IV, Rachel, Annie Wolter; Madeline and Nicholas Wolter, Benjamin Wolter; James and Charles Wolter; his sister, Mary Ann (John) Reinhardt, sister-in-law Catherine (Truman) Abram and many nieces and nephews. Our thanks to all those who cared for him especially Russ, Coleen, Pat and Susie. Visitation will be Monday, October 3rd at Sacred Heart Church at 5:30 with Rosary at 7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 4th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Sacred Heart Church, Bishop Kelly High School or the Catholic Seminary fund.
