Obituary of Elizabeth Chattin

Elizabeth "Betty" Chattin died quietly Tuesday morning at St. Luke's Hospital in Boise. She was born August 29, 1926 in Glenn Cove on Long Island in New York. Betty grew up there with her parents Frank W and Elizabeth Dodd. She fondly recalled riding in Uncle Harold's big car, going to the beach at South Hampton on "the Island" and seeing the Rockets at Radio City Music Hall in "the City" as a young girl. Her family moved to Coeur d'Alene when she was 16. She graduated from High School there and made life-long friends with Gladys, Margaret and Don. She attended the University of Idaho for a year, joining the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority and meeting that tall handsome young man who would soon become her husband. She married Kenneth Chattin of Boise on July 7, 1945. Her three children, Elizabeth, Phillip and Robert soon followed. She devoted the next segment of her life to raising her children: cooking, cleaning, nursing runny noses, PTA, cub scouts, girl scouts, and all the other thankless and endless chores of a housewife and mother in the '50s and '60s. After her children were grown, Betty was divorced and began work as a bookkeeper for Boise Public Schools. She especially enjoyed summer vacations at the Shore Lodge in McCall including breakfast on the patio, water skiing and just relaxing and "breathing-in" the scenery. In her later years, she enjoyed traveling to north Idaho and staying at her son's cabin on the lake at Coeur d'Alene. Throughout her life Betty enjoyed classical music and musicals. She had a beautiful voice and sang in her church choir. Betty was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Boise for 57 years. Memorials may be made to the Deacons Fund at the Church, or to your favorite charity. Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 23 in the Chapel at the First Presbyterian Church, 950 West State Street, Boise ID 83702. A reception at the Church will immediately follow the service. Betty is survived by her three children and by three grandchildren: Kaitlin Chattin of Boise; David Chattin, his wife Alexis and their son Steven Gregory, Wichita Falls Texas; and Chris Chattin of Boise. She was predeceased by her parents and grandson Steven P. Chattin.
