Obituary of Donald Smalley

Donald J. Smalley Don passed away at his home in Emmett, Idaho on September 28, 2014, at the age of 90. He was born February 29, 1924 at his home in Buhl, Idaho on a farm by the Snake River to Charles and Belle Smalley. Don was the third of five children. He has one brother who is deceased and three sisters who are still living. When he was a teenager they bought and moved to a dairy farm in Gooding, Idaho. Some years later they moved to Klamath Falls, Oregon where they continued to farm. A few years later they moved back to Buhl. He married Viola "Vi" Watson from Twin Falls, Idaho on September 28, 1949. They live in Twin Falls until the fall of 1952 when they moved to Southern California. They lived in California with their 4 children until 1968 when they moved back to Buhl. They lived in Buhl on a farm for four and a half years and then moved to Emmett where they remained until his death. When Don left the farm in the late 40's he became a cement mason. Don and his son Jerry started a concrete business in the mid 70's in Emmett and worked side by side until his retirement in the 80's. He taught both of his boys how to do concrete. Don was baptized in 1942 as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. It brought him great joy to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses and he looked forward to the future that is promised in the Bible at Revelation 21:4 and John 3:16. Don loved his life as a husband, father and grandfather. His children and grandchildren gave him much happiness. Don is survived by his loving wife of 65 years; Vi Smalley, his four children: Jerry Smalley (Eileen), Leah Tucker (Tom), David Smalley (Laina), and Bev Waits (John); his grandchildren Kenneth and DJ Smalley, Chelsey and Andrea Tucker, and Ashley Smalley; two great grandchildren Tiffany and John Smalley; and his three sisters. Memorial service will be October 18, 2014 at 4PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses located at 820 Tyler Road, Emmett, Idaho. Cremation was under the direction of Summers Funeral Homes of Meridian. The family would like to thank the staff of Heart & Home for all they did in taking care of Don.
