I met Dick during the time he was the Public Affairs Manager for U.S. West and was spending a lot of time at the state legislature. I was an attache in the House of Representatives so I saw him on almost a daily basis. Never had, nor yet have, I known a more kind, generous, affable gentleman than Dick. I have thought of him more than a few times over the ensuing years between then and now. Max Yost's annual oyster stew luncheons to which Max invited hard-working secretaries comes to mind. He enlisted the aid of only certain lobbying "sorts" to gather the "girls" together and drive them to Max and Katherine's home and make sure everybody was having a good time while Max would be in the kitchen with Katherine (cooking of course)! By the time lunch was served, we would be giddy and having a great time! Bart Brassey was often the "other" lobbying sort and they would sit at the heads of the table with the girls at either side. (Max never sat at the table as he was too busy refilling bowls, water glasses, passing out Lace Cookies, whatever....). Then Dick and cohort would take us back to work at the Statehouse. Not sure we got too much work done for the rest of those days but we did have fun!! Thanks to Dick for helping to '"make our days" way back when.
