Obituary of Wayne Kirby

Wayne B. Kirby, 75, of Fruitland, Idaho passed away in his sleep on April 19, 2014. Wayne was born in Soda Springs, Idaho on October 6, 1938 to Frank and Delpha Kirby, one of six children raised in the Pocatello area. He enlisted in the US Army Reserves in 1957 and was in active service until 1961. Wayne began working for the US Forest Service in 1960, and was employed by them for 10 years. Wayne married Maureen (Christie) Hepner on June 23, 1961. They resided in Garden Valley, Idaho from 1961 until 2000. Together they raised five children: Christie Ann Hepner, Jerry Hugh Hepner, Suzzanne Kolleen (Kirby) Richardson, Carole Ann (Kirby) Hackwell, and Russell Wayne Kirby. Wayne worked as a truck driver delivering fuel for Pitman Oil, ran long haul, drove logging truck for Hanson Logging, and was skilled in operating heavy equipment which lead him to use his entrepreneur skills in owning and operating Kirby's Excavation and Kirby's Rock Crushing until his untimely accident in January 1986 which paralyzed him from the chest down. Wayne persevered and started two new businesses, M&W Bus Company and Middle Fork Auto Repair for 15 years until July of 2000 when he and Maureen moved to Fruitland. Wayne will be remembered for his motivation, perseverance, tenacity, and wealth of knowledge. Wayne is survived by his wife, Maureen H. Kirby; brother, Eldon F. Kirby; sisters, Kolleen Ledada and Marilyn Webster; daughters, Christie Ann Hepner, Suzzanne Kolleen (John) Richardson, Carole Ann (Bob) Hackwell; son, Russell Wayne Kirby; 11 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and one on the way. He was preceded in death by his mother, Delpha Munger; father, Frank Kirby; sisters, Betty Anderson and Dana Lee Pankhurst; and son, Jerry Hugh Hepner. A viewing will be held from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm, Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Summers Funeral Homes, Boise Chapel, 1205 W Bannock St, Boise. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, April 28, 2014 at Dry Creek Cemetery.
