Obituary of Marvin Simpson

Marvin L. Simpson passed away on April 16, 2014 at the age of 82. He was born in Wendell, Idaho on February 15, 1932 to Everett and Erma Simpson. At age 15, he lost his father and took on adult responsibilities for a life time, becoming the head of household and caring for his mother and siblings. Marv attended Hailey High School and graduated in the class of 1950. During that same year, he met our mom Jean Baldwin as co-workers at the Golden Rule Grocery. They married the same year and soon after started their family. Marv's professions included grocery delivery, often to the Hemingway House, gas station attendant, and ski lift operator. In 1957, the family moved to Boise where he worked as a shoe salesman and began his 40 year home building career as President of Simpson Builders, Inc. He received the highest achievement award in 1991 for Best Overall Parade Home. Marv was a previous Director for the Home Builder's Assoc. of SW Idaho and a Board Member of the ARC, Inc. 1998 brought retirement so he could go fishing full time. Other interests he had were hunting, dancing, gardening, boating, skiing, reading, traveling and time spent with family and friends. His most treasured times were certainly his passion for being with his son, Steve. They enjoyed fishing, movies, reading, attending church and sharing meals together. Survivors include 3 daughters; Pam Randol and Phil King, Marla and Clint Heckenlively, and Dana Laursen, all of Boise; also 2 granddaughters and their families; Andee Farmer (Jeremiah, Max, Finley, Seth and Jameson); Niki Jones (Mike and Ava); and sister, Kathy Butler. Marv was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; infant son; daughter, Deb; and son, Steve (3-27-14); his parents; brothers, Jerry and Carl; and sister, Rita. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 2, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Summers Funeral Homes, Boise Chapel, 1205 W. Bannock St., Boise, Idaho. Jon Barnes will officiate with burial at an alternative time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Marquis Shaw Mtn, 909 Reserve St., Boise, Idaho 83712. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family on Marv's memorial webpage at www.summersfuneral.com.
