Obituary of Arthur Mattson

Arthur Lewis Mattson passed away Friday, April 11, 2014. He was born August 7, 1925 in Butte, Montana. He was the son of Arthur and Charlotte (Beebe) Mattson. Raised in the mining camp known as the Comet Mine, he moved to Boulder after the death of his father in 1942 and finished high school before joining the Navy. He met and married Barbara Cox in Billings, Montana January 12, 1952. He and John Franchi partnered in the car business back in Boulder, however it didn't take them long to realize that both families couldn't survive on the small business, so Art went on the road as a traveling salesman—truck jobber they called it in those days—and he built a business which he moved to Boise in 1957. He became a Hotsy dealer in the early 70's, and the family business continues today. Art and Barbara had 3 sons, Gregg, Gary, and David. Art was an outdoors man and spent many hours fooling around with "the boys"--Raymond Harris, Hank James, Carlton Viegel and his kids—skiing, sledding, hunting, and fishing. Art was a 50 year member and Past Master of Basin Lodge #60, A.F. & A.M., Basin, Montana; Oriental #60, A.F. & A.M., Boise; Scottish Rite Bodies; member of the El Korah Shrine Temple; and an active member of the Players Unit for many years. When not acting in the melodrama, he was directing or fund raising. Art was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara and older brother, Albert "Swede" Mattson. He is survived by his three sons and their families. We would like to thank all the staff at LCC Valley View who welcomed Art with open arms and provided excellent care for several years, and also the staff of United Hospice, who were invaluable in Art's last days. Memorial services will be at 3 pm. on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Summers Funeral Homes, 1205 W. Bannock Street, Boise. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Fairfax Ave. & Virginia Street Salt Lake City, UT 84103.
