Obituary of Allan Hui

Boise, ID lost one of its best on Mar 17. 2014 when Allan Man Kit Hui passed away due to a sudden massive stroke incurred 8 days before. Allan was born on Feb 20, 1959 in Hong Kong to Sze Ho and So Choi Hui. He attended a traditional Cantonese speaking school until the whole family immigrated to the U.S. in 1972. Without knowing a lick of English - and before the advent of 'ESL', Allan survived West Jr. High and graduated from Borah High in 1977. With his 'Bruce Lee' smile and swagger, Allan made many lifelong friends at Borah. His love of sports, especially soccer, kept him out of trouble most of the time. Pretty girls were one of his troubles; he married his high school sweetheart, Vickie, and two beautiful daughters, Jolene and Shanna, came soon after. Although the marriage did not last, Allan doted on his daughters until his last breath and he was a very proud grandfather to Abel and Pepper. Allan never was one to brag about his exploits but he dabbled in many professions: restaurant owner (Nam King and Hui's), UPS driver and pharmacy tech. He also had artistic talent and delighted his daughters with his own 'Calvin and Hobbes creations.' Allan was a 'pure steward' of Idaho's land. He loved to hunt and fish with his 4 brothers and many friends. An accomplished shot, Allan would harvest many a game bird but never more than he or his family could eat. Allan also had a penchant for German cars, the latest, greatest pair of Nike's, naming any 70's 'one hit wonder' song that played on the radio, and a love for Bruce Lee that he passed onto his daughters. Later in life, Allan would meet the true love of his life - June Wilber. She brought out the best in him and Allan always had an extra zing in his step when he was with June. He loved June's daughter Sallie as his own. The Hui family would like to thank all of Allan's friends, relatives, former employees and co-workers that visited him at the hospital. We would also like to thank the wonderful ICU nurses at St. Luke's downtown for their professional care of Allan. Allan is survived by his parents Sze Ho and So Choi, his daughter Jolene, her husband Tim and their daughter Pepper, his daughter Shanna, her husband Tyson and their son Abel, his partner June, her parents, her daughter Sallie, her son Tony and his family, his 6 siblings, his nephew and three nieces. He will also be greatly missed by his kitty Hendrix and his dog Bella. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Allan's favorite charities St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and/or the ASPCA. Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Morris Hill Cemetery. A reception will follow at the family's restaurant.
