Obituary of Waylon Hobbs

Waylon Arthur Hobbs or "Jim" as he was known by friends, family and business associates, passed away Sunday March 2, 2014 at Saint Luke's Hospital in down town Boise Idaho. Jim was born in 1940 in San Bernadine, California where he was raised by Joe and Ora Hobbs. In the summer of 1960 Jim met Donna McCrery, the love of his life through mutual friends. They shared fishing trips, walked the beaches hand in hand and after most dates when Jim took her home for the evening he was invited in for a real Italian Spaghetti dinner with Donna's Parents. Jim spent the rest of his life trying to duplicate Donna's father spaghetti recipe. Yes it was that good. Jim and Donna together had five children, Laurie, Jeff, Tracy, Jim and Mike. The Hobbs family moved to Las Vegas in 1968 and then settled in Boise Idaho three years later in 1971. Idaho was handpicked by Jim. The hunting, fishing and overall outdoor life suited him and his family like something out of the old west. Jim owned most every handgun, rifle and shotgun at one time or another in his life. Caliber ballistics and reloading was a large part of his life. Jim was a fine gunsmith. The pictures of trophy deer are many. Jim hunted in California, Utah, Nevada, Wyoming, New Mexico, Colorado, Montana and Idaho. Fishing was the top for Jim. He honed his fly fishing skills and it was beyond text book. To stand down stream and watch Jim weld a fly rod was poetry in motion. The fly swirling in the air and then all at once landing smooth as glass underneath an overhand of rock, earth and tree root was breath taking. The large 18 to 20 inch trout took the flies he tied for years. And no I won't tell you where. That treasured location stays with the Hobbs clan. IN 1994, after 33 years of marriage, Jim lost his wife Donna to natural causes. Anyone that knew him would say he was never the same. Yet he embraced life. Jim continued to hunt and fly fish until he was no longer to walk those same hill and streams. Jim then turned his attention to pond and lake fishing and mastered catfish, Trout, Crappie, Bass and many more. Jim was an Upholster for 56 years. He was trained by an English Master by the name of Savage. Savage was known to be hard but the best. Jim saw the opportunity and took it. Getting as close to his teacher as he could Jim learned and plied a trade that is still talked about by decorators here in Boise away in Seattle WA. During the 73 years of his life Jim enjoyed family. Christmas mornings and dinners each year found the Hobbs dinning groom filled to 17 people as the family grew. Jim adored his children and grand-children. Birthdays and Holidays the Hobbs house was the place to be. Jim and Donna's home was the hang out for all the kids and their school friends during those years. Jim and Donna raised fine Christian conservative children each graduating high school and all 5 attending College. Each morning while enjoying his coffee Jim thanked the Lord for another beautiful day. For Many years Jim attended First Church of Christ on Castle Dr. and that was where Jim was Baptized by Rev. Kenny Beckman and in front of witnesses' proclaimed Christ as being exactly who He said He was, The Living Son of God Almighty and Jim's precious Lord and Savior. Jim is survived by his three sons Mike, Jim Hobbs and Jeff "J.J." Johnson and daughter Tracy Hobbs. His daughter-in-law Christi Johnson, his sister Nona Armwood, his niece Tanya Perry. Jim's grandchildren are Daniel and Trisha Miller, Michael, Andrea and Nichole Hobbs. Taylor Hobbs, Mathew and Caycee Hobbs Proceeding Jim in death are his wife Donna Hobbs, daughter Laurie Hobbs, his parents Joe and Ora Hobbs, his Brother-in-law John Armwood, his in-laws Lester "Blackie" and Lena McCrery and his nephew Joey Perry.
