Obituary of Leona Wolfe

Leona E. Wolfe, 101, of Boise died February 24, 2014 at her residence at Hillcrest Assisted Living Facility in Boise. A viewing will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Summers Funeral Homes, Boise Chapel, 1205 W Bannock St, Boise. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, March 3, 2014 at Kohlerlawn Cemetery, Nampa, with memorial services following at 11:30 am at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 5009 Cassia St, Boise. Leona was born December 2, 1912 at Mayberry, Nebraska, the daughter of Chris and Rosa Wolf (original spelling of family name). At three years old the family moved to White River, Mellette County, South Dakota where she attended public county schools. She came with them to Idaho in the Fall of 1933. She worked as a housekeeper and in 1937 she moved with a family to Long Island, New York as a family helper, returning to Idaho in 1941. Leona worked at St. Luke's Hospital until the Winter of 1943. In February of 1943 she began working at Mountain States Telephone Company and had 28 years of service at the time of her retirement in 1971. After retirement she worked part time for OreIda Foods for 19 years. Leona was a 50 year member of Business and Professional Women Club and served in many offices including President and District Director. She was also a past member of the Zonta Club and had served in several office capacities. Leona was active with Boise Music Week Association and served as President in 1983. She was also a member of Telephone Pioneers of America and was very active with their volunteer programs. Leona was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Leona enjoyed gardening and keeping up her yard, sewing, bowling, and traveling; having traveled to many countries. Leona was preceded in death by her parents; five sister; and two brothers. She is survived by many affectionate nieces and nephews. The family extends a special Thank You to the wonderful staff at Hillcrest Assisted Living Facility for their loving care of Leona. Memorial donations may be made in Leona's name to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 5009 Cassia St, Boise, Idaho 83705.
