Obituary of Susan Sato

Susan T. Sato, born September 11, 1933 died on February 16, 2014. She passed away at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Meridian, ID surrounded by family. Susan was born in Pocatello, ID and graduated from Pocatello High School. After high school graduation Susan moved to Los Angeles, CA where she began her career in retail banking with Bank of America. While in Los Angeles, CA she met and became engaged to Ken Sato, also an Idaho native. Shortly, they returned to Idaho and were married in March 1956 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Idaho Falls, ID. This is when they pursued a life in farming. In 1960, they adopted their first son, Wade, in Salt Lake City, UT. In early 1962 they adopted a second son, Matthew, in Seattle, WA. Then, in June 1965 the whole family welcomed a daughter and sister, Syrena Maurene, born in Blackfoot, ID. Susan and Ken continued in farming in the communities of Pingree, ID then in Sterling, ID. In the spring of 1968 the family moved to the community of New Sweden, ID. At this time, Susan returned to the nonfarm workforce by first working, briefly, at French's instant potato operation in Shelly, ID and then returning to her career passion, retail banking, at the downtown branch of Idaho First National Bank in Idaho Falls. She remained in the banking industry, at that branch, through several mergers and acquisitions until her retirement in 1996. In retirement, Susan engrossed herself in reading old and new books that she had collected over the years, as she was a voracious reader. She also enjoyed luncheons, joy rides and morning coffee socials with her longtime friends. She derived her greatest pleasure though, in following and watching how her adult children were matriculating through life. Susan revered each and every moment she spent with her children and grandchildren and followed their endeavors with great interest and joy. She especially enjoyed sitting with each grandchild and talking about their experiences and interests. Each grandchild brought a different perspective to her life. Susan's passing has left a huge void in all of her families lives that may never be filled. She was always the first to try to provide comfort and care to all her children, grand Children and friends. She loved them all more than they will ever know. Susan was preceded in death by her father and mother, two half-brothers, and one sister. She is survived by three sisters, three children, Wade, Matt and Maureen, a son-in-law, Troy and two very special friends whom she considered as daughters, Margaret and Lori. Susan is also survived by eight grandchildren. A celebration of Susan's life will be held in Idaho Falls on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at the Idaho Falls Trinity Methodist Church from 6-8PM.
