Obituary of Laura Caldwell

At ninety-nine years, four months, nine days, February 15, 2014, Laura Catherine Edgar Caldwell passed from her mortal life; she is the last of the "Great Generation" of our family. Laura was first of all a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and grand friend and was born October 5, 1914, in Malheur County, Oregon. With her parents she moved to Boise when she was four years old. She attended school in the east end; and when the family moved to the first bench at Overland and Roosevelt Streets she was to attend Whitney school, which she later lamented on as the school burned that summer and had to go back downtown to school for the year. She graduated from Boise High School in 1933. In 1936 she married her best friend and love of her life Eugene S. "Dutch" Caldwell in Boise at her parent's home. She and Dutch moved from Boise for a very short time, but returned to spend the remainder of their 62 years together. Two wonderful sons, Gary Richard in 1938 and Warren Ralph in 1947 joined them. When the boys married they gained two lovely daughters - Nancy Rieman and Marilyn Monroe. During Laura's life she spoke of the many fun jobs of mostly short duration and eventually working in Boise City elections and from this to Ada County Elections, enjoying everyone she worked with. Her fun time was spent playing bridge, china and oil painting. Candy making was a serious Christmas project and it was many and varied. She was a member of the University Christian Church and sang in the choir for many years. Four grandchildren were the loves of their lives, Brian and Heather and Erin and Kelli. Coming in the later part of Laura and Dutch's life were great grandchildren. She loved life and her family and friends and she will now enjoy being with her Lord as well as those who preceded her. She was loved by her entire family, but will be welcomed on the other side with a great deal of rejoicing by her husband Dutch (2003), sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Jack Klam (1970), her parents Carl (1956) and Caddie (1975) Edgar and twin brothers who died at birth, along with many special cousins. She is survived by sons, Gary (Nancy) of Santa Rosa, CA and Warren (Marilyn) of W. Richland, WA; grandchildren, Brian (Diane) Caldwell of San Francisco, CA; Heather Caldwell of Santa Rosa, CA; Erin (Sean) Newcomb of Phoenix, AZ; and Kelli (Erik) Ramey of Richland, WA; six great grandchildren; four nieces: Eileen (Jim) Givens of Boise, ID; Lois (John) Taggart of Ontario, Oregon; Nancy (Bernie) Valentine of Star, Idaho; and Kathy (Bob) Paroz of Ogden, Utah and their families, along with extended family across the country. The family would like to thank the many caregivers at Life Care of Treasure Valley, in the last days Darren and Suzanne as well as the tireless and loving care extended by Life's Door Hospice, especially Janie and Mathew and his music. Our gratitude to each of you for your care and support of Laura during her many adventures in this life. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Morris Hill Cemetery, 317 N Latah St, Boise, Idaho.
