Obituary of Todd Pike

Todd Pike, 64, Boise, died at home February 9, 2014, following a valiant bout with cancer. Services to celebrate his life will be held at a time where family can attend and friends can be present. Notice will be given as to time and place in the near future. Todd was born November 5, 1949 to parents Jack and Gail Pike in Detroit, Michigan. He traveled far and wide during his younger years, and yet, never forgot his humble roots. He loved all that was Michigan. A proud and self proclaimed "Michigan Man", he had a particular love for the University of Michigan Wolverines. He never met a Wolverine that he didn't like, and fought hard to find reason as to why Ohio really needed to be a state. Todd's travel began with a stab at higher learning in places stretching from Northern Michigan to Western Kentucky. Pesky classwork seemed to hinder his journeyman goals, and so, with little more than a semester to complete he decided to fulfill one of those goals and visit the Alaskan frontier. Planning on a six week "let's see what Alaska is all about" tour, Todd stayed for 3 ½ years. Todd ultimately ended up in Idaho, and an Idahoan he then became. He was an avid Idaho sportsman who possessed an extreme passion for nature endeavors with a fishing pole, a gun, and his dog. With a career in the beer industry established, he became a friend to many, a husband, and a father to two wonderful young men. Kyle and Kegan Pike became the center of all that Todd believed in, and to the end of his days, were the two figures standing tallest at the forefront of all small and large decisions. Much like his travels, his palpable love stretched far and wide to family and friends, but there was no love larger than what he held for his boys. As family and friends, we gave every effort to return his compassion and graciousness. He was dearly loved by so many that knew him for minutes, months, years and lifetimes. There rings a loud and echoing sentiment of how professional, amicable, concerned, engaged, witty, coy, intelligent, and loving he was. He was a paragon to what is good in our world. Todd was a man of many words when they counted, and very few when they weren't needed. In 2000, Todd founded an annual fundraising event named "Laurel's Luau" in memory of a late friend who also battled cancer. He went on, with the help of many, to partner with Mountain States Tumor Institute to donate thousands of dollars to research and patient advocacy in the name of the event. "Laurels Luau" is held in Municipal Park on the Saturday parallel to the Race for the Cure in Boise, Idaho. It will continue on, intact with the spirit and love infused by his genuine compassion and benevolence for all others. Todd will live forever in our hearts. His buddy, Bill, will forever remember his "Sierra Club" hunts with him, and we will all remember his college bowl game parties and bocce ball tournaments that brought so much joy to everyone involved. And most importantly, when we hear the University of Michigan Fight Song, we will know that Todd Hastings (yes, Hastings…kiss my…) Pike is in the Big House. Todd's family includes his Sons Kyle and Kegan, Brother Jim, Sister Doreen, and many nieces and nephews with their spouses and children. Gone before are his grandparents, his father, and his mother. We would like to thank all that cared for his and our well being in the waning moments of his life. Forever are we grateful and appreciative for all of the support you have given us. Any and all donations meant for Todd Pike should be directed toward St. Luke's Health Foundation, 190 E Bannock St., Boise, ID 83712 in care of "Laurel's Luau".
