Obituary of Lynn McGlothin

Lynn C. McGlothin, MD, died on Sunday January 26, 2014 in Boise at the age of 73.   Lynn was born December 15, 1940 in Winslow, AZ to Clyde and Grace (Cooper) McGlothin.  He graduated from Winslow High School in 1958,   the University of Oklahoma  and  from  Baylor College of Medicine in 1966 .  He completed his internship at Denver General Hospital.   Lynn married Patricia Bailey on September 17, 1960.  They had two sons, Lynn Jr. born in 1967 in Winslow, AZ on his father's birthday and Roy born in 1972 in SLC.   Lynn  went into General Practice in Winslow, AZ from 1967 -1971.   There he got an incredible exposure to every phase of medicine, including the delivery of more than 100 babies.   He then did a residency at   the University of Utah.  The family then moved to Boise, ID where he started his Orthopaedic practice in 1975, retiring in 2000.  In 1993 he completed a Fellowship at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas.  Lynn was with Mt. States Orthopaedics, which he later helped develop into Intermountain Orthopaedics.   During his medical career, he served as President of the ACMA, 90-91 and served in different medical capacities of IMA, AAOS (Councilor from Id 83-89), ID Orthopaedic Society (President, 91-92) WOA, North Pacific Ortho Society, Orthopaedic  Research & Education Fd, Staff appointments at St. Alphonsus, St. Luke's, Elk's Rehab Hospital, University of Washington, Shriner's Hospital,  and State of Idaho Children's Special Health program. Lynn did free scoliosis screening for the Boise School District. He also volunteered a full week for 7 years at Hodia Wilderness Camp for diabetic teenagers. He packed food, medical supplies and cooking gear on his horses. He was in charge of the cooking with his Dutch oven skills.   Lynn was an avid golfer,  skier, hunter (chukar, pheasants, and elk), white water rafter, horse and wilderness packer and camper/explorer.  Lynn is survived by this wife of 53 years, Patricia; 2 sons, Lynn Jr. (Jennifer) and Roy; 3 grandchildren, Kierstyn, Connor and Carter; his brother, Carl (Lois) of Eugene, OR and 2 nephews and families.     A memorial service for Lynn will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Idaho Diabetes Youth Program, 1701 N. 12th street, Boise, ID 83702.
