Obituary of Reva Brewer

Reva Lucile Griggs Brewer passed away on January 26, 2014 in Boise, Idaho of natural causes. Reva was born in Purdy, Arkansas to Jasper and Esther Griggs on September 1, 1930. Reva lived in Madison County, Arkansas until her family moved to Idaho in 1935. She married Jack R. Hill on October 1, 1947 in Challis, Idaho. To this marriage was born four children: Judy Burns, Karen Hill Cunnington, Fred Hill and Jan Brown. They later divorced. On September 26, 1986 she married John V. Brewer in Twin Falls, Idaho at the Magic Valley Hospital with Reva's Mom, Esther Griggs, as their witness. To this marriage she inherited three step-children: Pam Brewer, John H Brewer and Carol Brewer. Reva loved to cook, garden and took pride in her home and she loved to entertain with her family and friends. Reva and Jack moved to a farm in Castleford, Idaho and in the winter months there worked for their neighbor's sheep camp, where Reva cooked for all the sheepherders. She was a stay at home mom with other duties assisting with the farm and later when they moved to Challis, Idaho in late 1967 on the ranch. After their divorce she worked as a waitress and cook at the Y Inn Café, Van Gas Company, and Custer County Assessor's Office and was elected as Assessor of Custer County. In 1978 she moved to Reno, Nevada and worked at Harrah's Casino as a Tour Guide and them moved to Boise, Idaho in late 1979. She worked at the Idaho Tax Commission and later at Idaho Transportation Dept as an appraiser until her retirement. Reva retired early to assist in taking care of her Father-in-Law who they had moved from Chicago and moved in with them. Reva also traveled internationally with her husband on his business trips to China, Europe, India, Japan and Israel. The Scandinavia countries, Australia and New Zealand were some of her favorite places. In their retirement years she and her husband got very involved in politics. She is survived by her husband, John V. Brewer, of Boise, Idaho; her four children, Judy Burns of Meridian, Karen Hill Cunnington of Boise, Fred (Sue) Hill of Challis, and Jan (Steve) Brown of Meridian; three step-children, Pam Brewer of Boise, John H. Brewer of Los Angeles area, California, and Carol Brewer of Dallas, Texas; six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren which brought a lot of joy to her life. She is also survived by her brothers, Herschel (Teresa) Griggs of Richland, Washington and Jim (Barb) Griggs of Twin Falls, Idaho; sister, Glenda Britz of Meridian, Idaho; sisters-in-law, Marge Griggs of Challis, Idaho and Kathy Griggs of Star, Idaho; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jasper and Esther Griggs; brothers, Raymond, J D, Onel and Jerry Griggs; sister, Dorothy Weast; and sister in law, Darlene Griggs. Memorial contributions may be made in Reva's honor to your favorite charity. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Summers Funeral Homes, Ustick Chapel, 3629 E Ustick Rd, Meridian, Idaho. Graveside services will conclude at Dry Creek Cemetery.
