Obituary of Michael Dunn

Michael Howard Dunn (1952-2014) Father, Brother, Friend and Mentor Michael Howard Dunn, 61, of Evanston, IL passed away suddenly and quietly at his home on January 24, 2014. He was born June 11, 1952 in Provo, Utah to Howard LeRoy Dunn and Beverly Warner Dunn Finch. He grew up in Spanish Fork, Utah and graduated from Spanish Fork High School. Mike continued his education, graduating from Utah State University in 1976. While at Utah State, he pledged Sigma Chi fraternity, Gama Kappa chapter, on January 19, 1975. Mike also met the sweetheart of his life, Susan Bowers of Burley, Idaho. They were married January 23, 1982 in Logan, Utah. The couple moved to Fountain Valley, California. On July 9, 1988 they were blessed with their beautiful daughter, Kerri Colleen Dunn, born in Newport Beach. Mike worked in the mortgage and banking industries holding positions of increasing responsibility. He accepted a promotion to West One Bank, Boise, Idaho, and a more family-oriented environment. Susan and Mike later divorced. They remained close friends, keeping the importance of raising their daughter in the forefront. Mike accepted a position in Salt Lake City, Utah, with a national bank, and then transferred to Phoenix, Arizona. His true vocation was mentoring and supporting others. He was active in Sigma Chi Fraternity, volunteering in the 1980s-90s. In 2002, Mike was inducted into the Order of Constantine, the highest honor a Sigma Chi brother can receive. In 2008 he turned his passion into profession, when he relocated to the fraternity's headquarters in Evanston, Illinois and was ultimately appointed as Executive Director. He served admirably and exceptionally well until his passing. He led the Headquarters Staff with as much passion and enthusiasm as any Sigma Chi ever did. Michael was beloved by everyone with whom he came in contact and was one of the most respected figures in the fraternity. Michael is survived by his daughter, Kerri Colleen Dunn, Boise, Idaho; his sister, Colleen Dunn Healey (Paul), Spanish Fork, Utah; his half-brother Casey Dunn, Sacramento, CA; half-sister Christine Dunn Britschgi (Richard), La Center, Washington; step brother Fred Finch (Marylynne), Spanish Fork, Utah; step sisters Diane Phillips (Grant), California; Becky Coleman (Lou), Salt Lake City, Utah; and numerous nieces and nephews. Latah, Boise. The family will receive friends at a viewing on Friday, January 31, from 6:30-8:30 PM, at Summers Funeral Home, 3629 E. Ustick Road; Meridian, Idaho.
