Obituary of Laurens Hosford

Laurens Donahue Hosford, 86, of Mackay, ID, passed away Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, in Ontario, OR. Laurens was born July 19, 1927 in Mackay to Anna Donahue and Laurens Hosford. At the age of two Laurens contracted polio and while the disease impacted his cognitive abilities, the kindness, humor, and sensitivity of his personality were always on display. Everyone who knew Laurens was touched by his gentle manner. Until the last two years of his life, Laurens lived with a family member. Laurens' father died in 1950 and he lived with his mother until her death in 1975. A short time later, his cousin, Patrick Donahue and Patrick's wife Patsy 'adopted' Laurens. The Donahue family (Pat, Patsy, Kathy, Kevin, and Erin) cared for Laurens for 37 years. In 2012, when he needed more care than could be provided at home, Patsy decided to put Laurens in the care of the Presbyterian Community Care Center in Ontario, OR. His natural charm quickly won the hearts of the staff at PCCC and he could not have been in a more loving and caring environment for the final two years of his life. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, January, 2, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 2612 W State St, Boise, ID. Burial will conclude at Mt. McCaleb Cemetery, Mackay, ID at 1:00 PM January 3, 2014. Memorials in Laurens' name may be made to Presbyterian Community Care Center, 1085 N. Oregon St., Ontario, OR, 97914.
