Obituary of Lois Thorne

Lois died peacefully at home on Christmas Eve after a long and wonderful life. Lois was born in Bricelyn, Minnesota to Lucius John Hunt and Myrtle Thompson Hunt. She grew up on their rural family farm with her parents and her two brothers, Mark and Don. After graduating from high school, Lois attended nursing school where she met her "lifelong love" and husband of 50 years, Dennis Thorne. After being married on January 21, 1950, Lois and Dennis settled on the shores of Pokegama Lake near Pine City, Minnesota. There they spent 30 years and raised their daughter Denise and son Steven. Lois worked for years as a nurse for Dr. Mach and helped Dennis manage their successful co-owned business, Sta-Brite Signs. Lois spent 30 joyful years in Pine City with family and friends. Many weekends were spent on "the lake" or at their cabin "Bear Track", fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and adventuring. After retirement, Lois and Dennis moved to Belgrade, Montana where they spent 17 years exploring the mountains and traveling south to Arizona during the winter. Dennis and Lois had many memorable and happy years in Montana spending time with their daughter Denise Babcock's family and other dear friends. After Dennis passed away in 2000, Lois spent 13 independent years in the Boise, Idaho area with her son Steve's family, her Granddaughter Monica Teall's family and her sister-in-law and friend, Jan McFerran. Her constant companion was Angel, her Weston Highland Terrier. Lois, our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend will be truly missed by all who knew her. Her bright, happy attitude and her ability to love and forgive all made her a joy to be around. Lois taught us the importance of family, the love of God and the love of friends. A memorial service will be held for friends and family on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 from 5pm-7pm at the First Baptist Church, 607 N. 13th Street, Boise, ID 83702.
