Obituary of Norman Wynia

Norman LeRoy Wynia, 65, of Fernley, Nevada, died peacefully on Sunday, December 22, 2013. He was born December 24, 1947, in Westfield, Iowa, to Raymond Wynia and LaVerne Wynia Jensen. Norm graduated from Elko County High School and worked for Warren and Wright Motors until he went into the Army. He enlisted November 15, 1966 and was discharged on December 9, 1968, serving in Germany. He then returned to Elko and started ranching for the 71 Ranch. He married Gayle Renee Churchfield on March 5, 1971 while he was working for the Elko County Farm Supply. In late 1975 they moved to Reno, and then Fernley in 1977. In 1976 he began his career as a machinist and was employed by Sierra Machinery, until he retired in 2010. He is survived by his wife, Gayle of Fernley; daughters, Jessica and Rebecca both of Reno; sister, Delores Keating of Missouri; brother, Ronald Wynia of Nevada; father-in-law, Simeon Churchfield of Idaho; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his dad, Raymond; his mom, LaVerne; and his stepfather, Clarence Jensen. A private inurnment will be held at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, Nevada at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or the Department of Veterans Affairs.
