I just learned of Fran's passing and wish to pay my condolences to her family. She offered her generous heart and warm home to me during a semester I spent teaching at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Her faith, her sense of humor, her endless kindnesses to all of the boarders in her home sustained me as I searched for an academic post (which I found). She also introduced me to Sinsinawa cinnamon bread--truly "sinfully" delicious! We stayed in touch through the years, even as our lives moved in different directions. My searching for her address, ended in finding her obituary. Fran lived a full life, though, and her Christmastime newsletters were testimony to her happiness in Idaho. She was a remarkable and remarkably strong woman, as well as being exceptionally generous. Again, I'm sorry for your loss, dear family and friends of Fran. What a mighty woman!

To the Family of Fran,
I just received the word of Fran's death . My prayers are with each of you at this time.
I only knew Fran from meeting her at the Taize prayer at Nazareth Retreat Center.
She brought Beth Carpenter to these evenings of prayer.
Before retiring from Boise recently, Fran called and asked if I would see Beth, who was not doing well. I visited Beth...then, on my arrival here in Indiana, came a beautiful thank you note from Fran - thanking me and wishing me well in my new home. As I said, I did not know Fran well, but, what I did know was that she lived a life of goodness, charity and prayerfulness.
Truly, a person of faith!
She leaves a rich legacy!
May she rest in the peace of God!

Fran when I turn my thoughts to you I want to say thank you. Thank you for your kindness, love and compassion. As a small child you were the soft touch of sweetness. I felt important I felt loved. I felt protected when others might bully I could stand behind you and I felt safe. The smile the laughter when I would be silly dancing within the innocence of my world. You let me be free you let me be me. Throughout my teens and later years. Whenever we crossed paths it was your sweet eyes and smiling glow that welcomed me. A hug a tender hand to my face. Then you listened wholeheartedly to how I was doing. You cared you always cared. A surprise, a loaf of zucchini bread in mail when life felt heavy, I felt loved. Thank you Fran for your inner beauty. You are a star that will always shine for me the rest of my life. You inspire me to be loving, compassion, forgiving and kind. In the end that is a life worthy of living.

Dear Jen (Zach and Ben), Brian, Dan, Tom, and Jackie, So very sorry to hear of your mom's (and grandma's) passing. I remember Frances well!! She was very kind to me whenever I saw her, and certainly made me feel like family. It may have been awhile, but I definitely can picture that smile.
Sending you all love and best wishes that you each get through this time of true sorrow, and on the other side of that sorrow are able to take her smile and spirit with you everywhere you go. Peace and love, Franny O'Reilly Shippy.
