Obituary of Doris Elaine Troutner

Our gracious and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Doris Francis Gifford, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2018 at her home in Boise, Idaho.  She was born March 16, 1930 in Grandview, Idaho.  She was the second of five daughters born to Clifford Mason Francis and Florence Nadine Parrish.

Doris grew up in Grandview, Melba, Stibnite, Sweet and Emmett, Idaho.  She graduated from Emmett High School in 1948.  On November 6, 1948 she married Keith Vaughn Gifford.   They are the parents of five children and raised their family in Mountain Home, Idaho.  In the early 1960’s, her husband Keith had a serious work accident that caused his health to decline over the next several years.  He died on April 27, 1967.  Prior to Keith’s death, they started a successful apartment business in Boise. Doris later married Roger Troutner in 1971.  They were divorced in 1992. Doris remained in the apartment business until her retirement at age 70.

Early in life, Doris grew to become a compassionate person and was very patient with others.  She was nonjudgmental and strived to look for the good.  She was an excellent cook, delighting family and friends with her chicken and noodles, homemade bread and jam, and chocolate cake.  Her home was always welcome to others with her warm hospitality and gracious ways.

Doris was a gifted decorator, gardener and seamstress. The personalized quilts she made for baby births, graduation and other special occasions have become treasures for her posterity. In her later years, Doris learned to oil paint and found much joy developing this talent, beautifying her home, and sharing her paintings with family.   She enjoyed traveling, especially with her son Mike, and went to such places as Washington, D.C., Yosemite National Park, the Canadian Rockies and Hawaii.

Doris was a devoted mother who believed in her children and grandchildren and took pride in their accomplishments.  She was caring and supportive and set a wonderful example of facing adversity with courage and optimism.   She made time for others and treated them with kindness and respect.  Her influence for good will be felt and remembered for years to come.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She is survived by four children:  Ed Gifford and his wife Carolyn, LeAnn Bright, Michael Gifford, and Darla Perez; 9 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, 1 great, great granddaughter, and her sister, Jeanne Pollock. She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith; her son, Gary; her parents; her siblings:  Wanda Lee Rivers, Janet Justice, and Carol Borisoff.

Funeral services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 11443 McMillian Rd, Boise, Idaho 83713, May 30, 2018, at 12 pm. Graveside services will be at the Emmett City Cemetery at 2:30 pm.
