I met Walter and Edith at the first flow blue collectors convention I attended. I don't know how we started talking about it but when I found out he was a Norwich grad also, I found an immediate connection with him and Edith (besides old dishes). I remember they collected "Oregon" (I think...) and I had to get a couple pieces as it made me think of them (they are still center on my dining room table). Walter and Edith were so incredibly welcoming and gracious - Norwich and the country lost an American treasure. Peace and blessings to you, his family. We all lost a fine Norwich man. He lived our Norwich values of serving others before himself. He was faithful to his God, his family, his Country and his University. We could not ask for any more from any alumnus. May he Rest In Peace. Our thoughts are with his beautiful family and all his friends. RADM Rich Schneider Norwich President Emeritus

Walt and Edith were our friends and neighbors for many years in Sea Palms on St. Simons Island, Georgia. My work often took me to barrier islands off the coast that were accessed only by boat. One night my wife called me and told me on Cumberland Island, Georgia, panicked that there was a snake in the house. I told her to call Walt, and she said that Walt was elderly and she didn't want to bother him. I reminded her that Walt was in the "Battle of the Bulge" and she relented. Walt had the snake out of the house within five minutes and we all went back to sleep. Walt and Edith were of a generation that we are sadly losing. They were good and kind people and will be sorely missed.

Over the years Cindy’s parents,Walter and Edith, always welcomed Paul and me during our visits to Vermont and Georgia.
They were so gracious and hospitable. Such wonderful memories that we will keep with us. They will sadly be missed.

Walt and Edith were our neighbors at Peppertree Crossing until the time they moved to Idaho. Walt loved to talk to us of his time in the service. When my son, an Afghanistan vet, was visiting he and Walt shared endless military stories as they compared serving in these two wars.
The day Walt got back from his Honor Flight to DC, he came right over and told us all about it. He was so happy and proud to have gone.
Being new to the south, Walt and Edith both tried to give my husband and I a crash course in southern living. We heard all about the big snow storm on St Simons and how they were the only ones around with proper winter wear. Walt was a wonderful man and will be missed.
